Northridge Middle School has been honored as a State and National School of Character.

The school administration and faculty gathered for a celebration of the accomplishment earlier this morning.

Northridge Middle School was awarded two trophies, as well as matching banners, to mark the occasion.

Of course, faculty members displayed the banners and trophies with pride as students also gathered for the celebration in Tuscaloosa.

The honor signifies that Northridge Middle School is a school committed to fostering a welcoming and positive school culture, aiming to help build strong character traits within its student body.

According to faculty members, the mission really began about three years ago.

Teachers and administrators say that the students have bought in and really do understand what an award like this really means.

It's also important to note that five Tuscaloosa City Schools have been recognized with "School of Character" honors in the last three years.

According to character.org, the mission statement revolves around 11 core principles. That first principle is "A set of core values is selected, defined, embedded, and modeled throughout the school culture".
