This has become a major issue across the state of Alabama!

It seems to me that more and more scammers are active and trying to steal your hard-earned money. If these scammers put just a third of their energies into doing good, this planet would be a much better place to live.

Multiple incidents have prompted a couple of sheriff’s department warnings.
This time, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has issued another scam alert for Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Tuscaloosa sheriff’s department tells us they will never, ever call demanding money. They just don’t do it. Often, the money is exchanged for avoiding arrest. Granted, this one gets your attention, but it is never the sheriff’s department calling.

Another scammer favorite is to ask for cash to avoid being arrested for missing jury duty. Your red scammer alert flag should go up immediately.

There is no legal matter that would lead to a Tuscaloosa sheriff’s department call demanding money. This can be easy to fall for at times because I remember dating a lady who nearly fell for a scam like this one.

She got a call from someone claiming to be with the "police department," and they said she had an old warrant for a ticket a few years ago.

They purposely leave everything vague, and you start to wonder if it is legit.

However, I told my girlfriend that I was certain no law enforcement agency would call you to inform you of a warrant.

That just does not happen.

If you get a suspected scam call, a smart rule of thumb is to call the local sheriff’s department and ask directly if there is any situation requiring that you pay money.

Please alert any elderly friends, neighbors, and family about this scam alert.
