The woman escaped from the Hale County jail after using fraudulent and forged paperwork to convince a judge to release her. The Moundville police chief, Toby Banks, said Ellory Kate Johnson, also known as Kate Nichols and Kate Strickland, was released from Hale County Jail after a fake document was presented to the jailer. Johnson is 32-years-old. In 2023, Johnson was arrested for practicing medicine without a license.

Banks also said that Johnson is now facing additional charges stemming from warrants obtained for Escape I, among others, and for Debra Nichols, the person who presented the fraudulent paperwork, for permitting or facilitating escape. Authorities claim that Nichols had been convinced that Johnson was her biological daughter.

At this hour, Tuscaloosa County Court has issued a writ for Escape I with a $30,000 bond. The charge for Debra Nichols has a $15,000 bond. If you see Ellory Kate Johnson, contact the authorities immediately.
