The Price Of Alcohol In Alabama Could Be Going Way Up Soon
If you enjoy a drink or two, prices may increase soon due to a new ABC board fee.

It’s known as a bailment fee, which is essentially a storage fee that alcohol producers pay until their product is on the shelves.
The ABC board is raising the fee from $ 0.72 to $1.00 per case.
According to a story from WIAT-TV, the fee will be used to build a new warehouse, among other projects.
Politicians on each side seem to be in disagreement over whether or not the government in Alabama should be involved in liquor distribution and sales in the first place.
Why should the government be so heavily involved in this industry?
Why is this industry chosen over others in our state?
It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
Of course, the ABC board says that the decision is whether to pass this increase on to customers or for the companies to absorb. It is up to them, according to WIAT-TV.
Only 17 states control alcohol sales tightly, such as Alabama, and these include Mississippi, Idaho, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia, among several other states.
Even though politicians seem to disagree on how much involvement Alabama has in the industry, it looks like a change is not in sight in the near future.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for change as long as Alabama continues to rake in significant revenue from controlling alcohol sales.
