Northport Beach Project Will Move To Next Step
Vacation destinations like Gulf Shores, Panama City, Orange Beach, and Northport, Alabama?
That's what Northport city officials are betting on and hoping for with their ambitious University Beach project.
The Northport City Council had the endeavor on the agenda and voted 3-2, in favor of, on Monday.
The City Council approved the appointment of a group home operator, Shaferris Porter, to Northport's city seat on the University Beach Capital Improvement Cooperative District Board of Directors.
It's the latest step forward in the effort to bring the University Beach resort to Northport in the future.
The opposition to the resort project has been very vocal and led to the resignation of former Council president Jeff Hogg.
The developers say it could bring $350,000,000 in capital investment.
The two opposing votes came from Northport City Council members Jamie Dykes and Anwar Aiken.
This proposal still has many questions that some residents feel have not been answered as of yet.
The University Beach developers were not present for the vote on Monday night.
