It is also powered by the first-class people at Alabama State Games and Hand'NHand entertainment.

Ronnie is a country music legend, and most experts agree he belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his role in the history of the iconic "Elvis".

McDowell was driving down the highway at exactly 2:22 pm on August 16, 1977, when he heard an announcer on the radio say, "It's 2:22 in the afternoon, and ladies and gentlemen, I am sorry to report that Elvis Presley has died today".

Suddenly, it came to Ronnie that he needed to stop the car and begin writing down the words in his head.

The words were coming fast and furious, and he began to get them on paper because he was sure this was a divine thing.

Within a couple of days, he had a song recorded-"The King Is Gone"-and it was ready. He had to pay out of his own pocket to have the vinyl singles produced.

It just so happened that a program director from a Radio Station in Indianapolis was present the day the singles were made, and the song very moved that program director.

He told Ronnie McDowell that he would take a copy back to Indianapolis and start playing it immediately.

Within the first five minutes of playing the song, the King is gone. The phones at the station were flooded with calls from callers demanding to hear it again.

The station played it for three hours straight, an unprecedented feat in entertainment.

Instantly, every station in the country put it on the air, and within the first week, the song sold 1 million copies in the USA.

He became the biggest star in the world, quite literally overnight.

He appeared on every major talk show, was featured in every newspaper and magazine, and joined every concert tour in America.

His song so moved Elvis fans that it reached Presley’s family, and they loved it as well.

It changed everything for Ronnie McDowell, and his career exploded with multiple hit singles.

Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa is celebrating the King with an "I LOVE ELVIS" weekend in February 2026.

It will include a rare, unforgettable experience with Ronnie McDowell and Elvis' cousin, Edie Hand signing their hit book, The Genuine Elvis, at the historic Bama Theatre, beginning at 5:30 pm, with the concert at 7:00 pm.

This will sell out, and these tickets will make a great Valentine's Day gift for any Elvis fan.
