I guess I’m just naive because I never thought this kind of thing happened in Alabama.

I thought it was only in faraway nations halfway around the world. You know, stuff like this only happens in other countries.

But no, now something we thought was not going on in Alabama has led to a pretty huge fine for one poultry producer.

That is one thing we have plenty of in Alabama…Factories that produce all manner of poultry products in just about every city I’ve lived in.

Now, one of them is in some hot water after being caught by the US Department of Labor.

The Alabama company is being hit with a nearly $400,000 consent judgment after being found in violation of labor laws and policies, including child labor with workers who, in some cases, were only 14 years old.

Mar-Jac Poultry AL has been hit with fines after it violated several child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Investigators uncovered workers, 14 and 15, in positions that are prohibited by child labor regulations. Read more details here.

These stories always make me wonder what was going on with the parents. How could several children that young be gone for hours at a time for several days, and no adult is even noticing what is happening?

How is that even possible these days? What is happening with parents these days?
