Halloween Safety Reminders from Alabama Law Enforcement Agency
West Alabama neighborhoods are gearing up for Halloween night, when streets come alive with excitement as children, teens, and the young at heart make their rounds from door to door, collecting sweet candy treats and creating memories along the way.
As the fall tradition hits your block, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is reminding parents, guardians, and motorists to prioritize safety. “With increased pedestrian traffic, excited trick-or-treaters, and seasonal celebrations, ALEA’s goal is to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and happy Halloween,” said the press release.
“We are committed to protecting Alabama families year-round, but especially on nights like Halloween, when excitement can sometimes overshadow caution,” said ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor. “By planning ahead, staying alert, and using safety tools, we can ensure a safe and memorable evening for everyone.”

ALEA Shares Halloween Safety Tips for Parents and Trick-or-Treaters
- Plan your route ahead of time. Choose well-lit areas and use sidewalks whenever possible.
- Stay visible. Add reflective tape to costumes or carry glow sticks and flashlights.
- Travel in groups. Young children should always be accompanied by an adult.
- Check treats. Discard any unsealed or suspicious items before eating.
- ALEA Shares Important Halloween Safety Tips for Drivers
- Stay alert and slow down. Children may dart into the street unexpectedly.
- Avoid distractions. Put down the phone and focus on driving.
- Drive sober. Never get behind the wheel under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
ALEA Safety Tools for Parents
- Before heading out, ALEA encourages families to use the Alabama Sex Offender Registry.
- This public safety resource allows users to search for registered sex offenders by name, address, or geographic area. Parents can use this tool to make informed decisions about trick-or-treating routes and neighborhood safety.
- The registry can be found HERE.
