It seems a little late in the year for big brown bears to be running around looking for food.

That's usually in the early part of Spring.

OK, WAIT A MINUTE

I believe I read somewhere as a kid that brown bears look for mates in the summer months of June and July.

That's when you do not want to get in their way.

This is the peak of their mating season, and you do not want to tangle with a hungry, and, uhhh, you understand, big brown bear this time of year.

Well, I would not want to tangle with one at any time of year.

Female bears are only "receptive" to male bears for a couple of weeks during mating season.

So, male brown bears are showing signs of a certain type of urgency these days.

SURVIVING A BEAR ATTACK

It's important to know what to do if you are face-to-face with one of these big bears.

It seems to me we have more bear sightings in Alabama this year than in previous years.
They are showing up in every part of the state and in all different types of cities.
Here is another example courtesy of our good friend James Spann.

Which type of bear is more aggressive?

Well, according to my favorite wildlife program, Planet Earth, it's the grizzly bear.

Again, I've learned from my favorite program that all bears have very different temperaments.

Just be very careful if you have a bear anywhere near you or your family.

Watch that "survive a bear attack" video above to answer any questions.
