Why Are West Alabama Hospitals At Capacity

I do not claim to know anything or have any special insight. I'm just asking questions and noticing more and more and more posts on social media. I have a co-worker who has dealt with some family issues and a need to take them to a hospital in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham. She was told that it wasn't a good idea to go to UAB or Birmingham because the hospitals are on "diversion," and that means they have no beds available.

My co-worker tells me that her family member was told that several patients have been waiting for days to get a bed or to get transferred to UAB Hospital. These are simply anecdotal stories and things being posted on social media. Another post on social media highlights a patient admitted to UAB on Saturday but still waiting on a room as of today.

Did I miss something? Is COVID back at some kind of alarming rate? Is there an outbreak of something that we haven't been told about? No rooms at any local hospitals and hallways that look like a parade lineup. I feel for the staff as they are working as hard as they can.

Just asking questions and trying to get some answers to an important question. Why is there no room at the hospital these days?
