Alert: Dangerous Outdoor Warning For Alabama

They can be as deadly as a venomous snake. They are outside in Alabama. Some experts believe there will be an epidemic this year.
Summer in Alabama finds many of us outside hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and at risk of coming in contact with dangerous, deadly ticks. Our animals are at risk too.
The dreaded tick carries diseases. Lyme disease and other illnesses, even death, can result from tick bites.
There are many over the counter tick repellents you can purchase for yourself, your kids, and your pets. These products can be expensive.
I just purchased a 3-month supply that cost over $80 dollars. Of course a tick bite can be more costly.
An internet search offers some cheaper, effective homemade options.
Pets:
Mix distilled white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Ticks are repelled by the smell and taste of vinegar. Add some lemon juice to improve the smell. Spray onto your pet several times daily. This also repels fleas.
You and Your Kids:
Mix water and essential oils with water in a spray bottle. Eucalyptus oils will repel ticks. Citrus oils and peppermint also get the job done. Spray onto your skin and clothes before going outdoors.
Be sure to check yourself for ticks after coming inside. They are fond of all our nooks and crannies, including our hair. You might ask your significant other to lend a hand. As Brad Paisley sang “I Wanna Check You For Ticks”.
Enjoy your summer, but take measures to keep safe from dangerous, deadly ticks in Alabama.
