Thanks to some friends and some readers we've been turned on to some pizza that rivals anything in Chicago.

That seems hard to believe. I know it does because I doubted it at first.

I don't claim to be like Dave Portnoy and capable of a "one bite" review.

One bite just doesn't do it for me. Especially if it is truly good pizza.

I’ve had deep-dish, Chicago-style pizza, a couple of times in my life and there isn’t much like it anywhere in the world.

That’s why it is so hard to believe that a place in Alabama rivals the experience I had in downtown Chicago a few years ago.

Trust me when I say this, I’m not the only one who feels this way but until recently I knew nothing about this amazing pizza palace.

Chicago-style deep-dish pizza is not easy to find in Alabama at least in my experience. Not a lot of places have even tried to go down that road.

That’s when the city of Hoover, Alabama was brought up and most importantly a pizza place called Tortugas Homemade Pizza was introduced to me.

How do you even describe deep-dish pizza?

It is just simply the thickest creation ever in the pizza world with the most cheese ever used on any dish much less deep-dish.
I don’t care how cheesy your macaroni is, there’s no way it uses more cheese than a deep-dish Pizza.
If you've never tried one of the "Chicago" pizzas you are missing out. If you are a pizza lover it is an absolute must!
It will forever change the way you eat pizza in Alabama.
