I was really excited to hear about O.J. Howard and Calvin Ridley both making the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award.  There is no doubt Nick Saban has big plans for O.J. Howard this season.  In March, AL.com published a great story about how Saban apologized for not utilizing Howard better during the season last year.  This conversation happened right after the National Championship when Howard caught 5 passes for 208 yards and 2 TD's in a win against Clemson.

The pitch was simple reported AL.com : If you come back, I'll make sure you are more of a focus on offense.  Howard says he decided quickly and wanted to grow more as a person and player.  We all know Saban makes men outta boys and apparently so does Howard.  I think we'll see more and more compare Howard to ole Ozzie Newsome in the coming season ahead.  Especially when Bama blows out USC in about 9 weeks and Howard has about 9 catches for 130 yds...Bama 42, USC 21.  (Editor note: Wild Bill makes predictions with crimson colored glasses some say)

Calvin Ridley made the list of 90 players on the preseason watch list too.  Ridley had 89 receptions for 1,045 yards and 7 TD's last year.  Ridley is a crazy talented sophomore with big play possibilities on every play.  Lane Kiffin, has often complemented Ridley's speed and his transition and nobody goes from 1st to 5th gear faster on offense for the Tide.

Howard was tied for third on the team with 38 catches for 602 yards and 2 TD's.  The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the nation's top player.
