Oh wow, now I have heard it all. Although as soon as I say that, something stranger will happen.

It was a car accident. OK, how many vehicles are involved?

Well, just one and an alligator.

According to WSFA-TV, the incident occurred during the Memorial Day holiday, in the middle of the night.

Wait, why did the gator cross the road?

That's obvious, right?

Here's a snapshot of what we know at this point.

WSFA reported that it was around 3:20 am, and the driver was heading towards the interstate.

The driver didn't see the eight-foot alligator until it was much too late, according to WSFA-TV.

Of course, you don't want to cause a more serious situation by swerving wildly or slamming on the brakes too quickly.

The Waugh/Mt. Meigs Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene and said the driver reported hitting the big gator as it was making its way across the highway.

It seems like we have had a few (too many) alligator encounters in Alabama and Florida this year.

I understand this kind of thing happening in Florida. I expect that. However, it hits a little too close to home when it happens here in Alabama.

An eight-foot alligator is plenty big enough to give me a nightmare or two.

Below, check out this list of places you are most likely to hit an animal crossing the road.
