In this world, it's a blessing to run into good Samaritans.

Even at a young age, I've always heard about good Samaritans. The great thing about good Samaritans is that I found that there are some in Tuscaloosa.

Last night, as I was driving down 69 south, I came up to the light at Skyland Boulevard, and I noticed a vehicle constantly flashing its lights. They did it so much that it made me a little nervous.

I wondered, are they in danger? Is this a signal for help?! Did their brakes cut off, and they're trying to tell the car in front of them that they won't be able to stop, because they came very close to the car in front of them.

One thought in my mind was that, what if that's true? What if the thing that I heard about in my early years of driving is really true, and this person is really trying to look out for other drivers?

Growing up, hearing "Good Samaritans" tell you things like "Step on the crack, you break your mamma's back" was always hard to buy into for me.

Same to be said about this one age old tale people used to explain to me when I first started driving as a 15-year-old. Well, sure enough, as the light turned green, I went over the hill passing Mimosa Park Parkway, I seen it.

There was a police officer who seemed to be waiting to catch people speeding, and that good Samaritan was trying to warn other drivers that the police were over the hill!

It truly feels like there aren't good people left who are willing to help strangers. So to that good Samaritan on 69 South, I thank you.

Last night could have been my next ticket. But thanks to you. It wasn't.

PS. I'm usually a fast driver, but last night, honest to god, I did the speed limit. And I'm thankful that everybody around me was being safe as well.

Top 10 Best and Worst Public Schools in Tuscaloosa County

The rankings for this gallery were based on the 2018- 2019 Alabama Department of Education School Report Cards for the Tuscaloosa City School District and the Tuscaloosa County School District. This data was used because many categories in the report card for 2019-2020 was waived due to the pandemic. In the event of a tie, the schools with the same overall score were ranked by academic achievement scores. In all other cases of a tie, the schools were listed alphabetically.
