Nick Saban Explains Why Lane Kiffin is Leaving Alabama One Week Before Championship Game
Just seven days before Alabama plays for a College Football Playoff championship, the school announced that Lane Kiffin will not remain with the team for the final week.
In a school release, Saban issued the following statement:
“We appreciate all that Lane has done for our football program over the last three years,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. “We sat down following the Washington game and talked about the time demands of managing both jobs, and we recognized that it is best for our players, and for Lane, that we allow him to turn his full attention to his new head coaching role at FAU.
Just minutes after the news broke in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide's head coach joined ESPN and Rece Davis to discuss the decision. As you'll hear in the interview at the top of the page, Saban echoes his earlier statement.
The conversation continued with questions about new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian's impact on play-calling and if it would change much from what we saw in Saturday's win over Washington.
