The Townsquare Media Weather Center is monitoring the potential for a wet weekend with a hint of a threat of severe weather.

“A conga line of weather systems is poised to affect the region Friday into the weekend, bringing waves of heavy rain and a renewed threat of flooding,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Friday Outlook

It is anticipated that there will be widespread rain and thunderstorms throughout the state on Friday and Friday night.

On top of that, we are evaluating the possibility of a severe weather threat at the same time. Friday afternoon is currently being pinpointed as a potential focus.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said a “few strong storms are possible, but the overall severe weather threat looks fairly low at this point with limited dynamic forcing.”

Saturday Thoughts

Currently, you can expect showers on Saturday. However, Spann said it “certainly won't rain all weekend, and the sun might peek out at times Saturday.”

Sunday View

There is the possibility that rain events on Sunday will be more widespread.

Rain Totals & Flooding Threat

The rain amounts on Friday through Sunday could range between 2 and 3 inches. This causes concern for flooding of waterways, low-lying and flood-prone areas in Alabama.
