Salmonella Recall Hits Kroger Products Sold in Alabama

Alabama shoppers are being urged to check their refrigerators as a recall involving fresh jalapeños expands to prepared food products sold across multiple states.

Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling several products made with jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors because of potential Salmonella contamination. The recall comes as the FDA and CDC investigate a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to fresh jalapeños.

While recalled products were sent to several major retailers, including Kroger, Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Hannaford and Stop & Shop, the product specifically listed as distributed to Alabama is sold at Kroger.

Alabama consumers should look for the Private Selection Spicy Roast Beef Sandwich, 8.53 ounces, with UPC 011110678171 and “Best If Used By” dates ranging from Aug. 7 through Aug. 12, 2026.

The sandwiches were also distributed to Kroger locations in Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

The recall stems from an investigation involving jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors. According to the recall announcement, a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, was identified as the potential source of the outbreak.

Salmonella can cause symptoms including fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In some cases, particularly among young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems, infections can become serious.

Taylor Fresh Foods says it is not currently aware of illnesses linked specifically to its recalled products.

Anyone with the recalled Kroger sandwich should not eat it. Consumers are advised to throw it away immediately and may return to the place of purchase for a refund.
