Bama Hoops Heads to Wake for Charity Exhibition

The 2023-24 Alabama men's basketball team will team up with Wake Forest to compete in a charity exhibition game Sunday, Oct. 29 in Winston-Salem, N.C., at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. All proceeds from the event will support stroke research at the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Stroke Center.

 Said Bama coach Nate Oats: “We are excited and honored to partner with Wake Forest for this meaningful event. To be able to play an exhibition game and help people in need is a great opportunity that goes beyond basketball. At the same time, it will also give us an opportunity to test ourselves against a quality program in a road environment at Wake Forest.”

Bama fans making the trip will be glad to know  that admission to the game will be free, with a suggested voluntary donation of $20 accepted at the gate. Additionally, there is an online donation form available now for donations to stroke research.

 As far as the matchup is concerned, the Demo Deacons finished last season with a 19-14 record, 10-10 record in the ACC. The hosts return six lettermen and three starters.

Wake Head Coach Steve Forbes signed the nation’s No. 44 signing class, and the Deacons have had the last two ACC Player of the Year recipients (Tyree Appleby in 2023 and Alondes Williams in 2022). Bama will face neither, as  both currently play professionally.

In the series between the two, the Crimson Tide is is 2-5 all-time. The two teams   last met in the 1999 NIT, a game Wake Forest won 73-57 when the Tide was coached by Mark Gottfried.

At this time no TV or radio coverage for the exhibition has been announced. In the past, neither outlet has covered preseason games.
