Gun Found On Student Friday at Gordo High School

The Pickens County Sheriff's office alerted the public of a recent discovery at Gordo High School.

"Thanks to the rapid response of the school administration and SRO Davis, a potentially tragic situation was avoided," the Pickens County Sheriff's office posted on Facebook Friday.

They reported that a gun was found on the campus of Gordo High School in the possession of a student.

"Sheriff Powell commends Principal Campbell, school administration, and SRO Davis for their timely and effective actions in resolving the situation," the post read. "The swift response was crucial in ensuring the safety of all students and staff members."

The Pickens County School system posted a few more details on the incident Friday.

"Earlier today at Gordo High School, a firearm was discovered in a student's waistband on campus," the post from Pickens County Schools read on Facebook. "There is no further known threat to the students at this time"
