Coming off of a state championship appearance last season, the Gordo High School Green Wave released their 2021 high school football schedule Tuesday.

Gordo will begin similarly to how their season started in 2020 with a match against Oakland. This will also be the first game inside of the Green Wave's new stadium as they played last season at Pickens County for all of the home games. Gordo will then travel to take on Aliceville and then move on to their first district game against Oak Grove

Last season, Gordo dropped a tough game against Northridge 17-13 and Gordo will get an opportunity to avenge that loss in week 6. The Friday before Halloween Gordo will host Pickens County in a cross town rivalry game at home.

The homecoming game for Gordo will take place on October 22nd at home against Curry.

The big question for Gordo will be the play of senior quarterback and Oregon commit Tanner Bailey. Bailey will look to lead the offense in a passing attack that brought Gordo a 14-2 record and an appearance in the state final game against Handley in a 35-20 loss inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Coming off of a coach of the year award from the AHSAA, Gordo head coach Ryan Lolley is looking forward to a great season and loves the schedule.

“It is going to be a good year for us.” Lolley said. “We had a great run last year and we want to be more competitive this season. We have been preaching that to our kids during the off-season and want to have more success this season. Tanner is going to be a big part of that, but it’s everyone having to do their job on this team.”
