Gus Smith, Gordo High School's head football coach, announced his resignation on Thursday after leading the Greenwave to a 31-6 record over three seasons.

The Gordo Green Wave was victorious over the Midfield Patriots 42-0.

Despite the brutal loss to close out the season, there are plenty of reasons for optimism to surround this Hale County program.

Gordo went on the road and defeated Pickens County 54-18 in the rivalry game.

Coming off of a state championship appearance last season, the Gordo High School Green Wave released their 2021 high school football schedule Tuesday.

Friday night, the Northridge Jaguars (6-0, 3-0) took down the undefeated Gordo Green Wave (5-1, 3-0) 17-13. While these teams have deep football roots in Tuscaloosa county, this is the first time that both teams have played. Junior Northridge running back LiEric Street led the Jaguar offense by rushing for 131 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.

As another electric week of high school football in the state of Alabama comes to an end, some teams in the Tuscaloosa area are looking fierce early on.

The Gordo Greenwave (2-0, 0-0) won its home opener against the Aliceville Yellow Jackets (1-1, 0-0) tonight 30-12 at Pickens County High School. The Greenwave is playing its home games at Pickens County High School due to stadium construction.

Gordo High School is headed back to the state finals for the first time in six years after beating rival American Christian Academy, 5-2, on Thursday night.
