The greatest fear for many is overcrowded hospitals overwhelming our health care system. The number of ICU patients has reached a critical point in Montgomery hospitals, and ICU beds there are running low, so some patients are now being sent to Birmingham hospitals.  "The virus is straining the city’s hospitals," according to AL.com and Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed, with Reed stating, “I’m concerned about the current status of the COVID-19 pandemic.  We are seeing an increase in the number of people who test positive.”

In Tuscaloosa, DCH has reported that the number of people being tested for COVID-19 each day has more than doubled over the last several days compared to last week.   Statewide numbers show that Alabama has had over 12,700 COVID-19 cases, and that 370 of those cases are from the past 24 hours.

How do we slow the pace of COVID-19?  Most doctors agree that a combination of social distancing, the use of face masks, and frequent hand-washing will help to slow the spread of the virus.
