Yet another stat Alabama ranks last. We should be ashamed!

It's not enough that we already have 2 of the most dangerous cities in America.

and Birmingham, Alabama, came in second and third, respectively, with higher-than-average crime rates and lower living standards.

If that's not bad enough, J.D. Power ranked the states with the best and worst tap water based on six factors:

  • quality and reliability
  • price
  • conservation
  • billing and payment
  • communications
  • customer service

The study tracked water utility customers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  The states were scored on a scale of 100 to 1,000 points.

  5. Kansas
  6. Massachusetts
  7. Connecticut
  8. Minnesota

Alabama ranked as the state with the worst tap water in the country.

Alabama, which had a quality and reliability score of 701, struggled in almost every category.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, around 2.1 million Alabamians use groundwater as their source of drinking water.

About 20 percent of these users get their water from wells. Because of this, individuals are responsible for the safety of their own drinking water.

In Alabama, you should be testing your water at least once a year.

Various water testing kits are available in the market. These kits typically provide test strips, color-coded reagents, or portable meters to measure specific parameters like pH, chlorine, or heavy metals. However, for a comprehensive analysis or if you suspect significant contamination, it is advisable to contact a certified laboratory for professional testing.
