I found this one hard to believe.

It's all about the benjamins. Right?

I thought being a mayor was not really a full-time job.

Many of the mayors that I have met in Tuscaloosa, Northport, and Brookwood work other jobs due to the low salaries.

Well, not everyone in the city government is needing to work additional jobs.

If you had to guess which Alabama mayor makes the most money I am confident this would not be first on your list.

This mayor makes close to $200,000 per year in this town.

What town do you think it is?

Mountainbrook?

No, it's not where you would expect it to be.

And the winner is.....

BESSEMER, ALABAMA

Last week, the local City Council approved the next mayor to have a salary of $170,000 per year.

That's a good bit of cash for the job.

Oh, yeah, the mayor in Bessemer also receives a $1,000 monthly fee for a "discretionary account".

What do you think of that?

By the way, the vote for this salary package was 5-1.

How many people live in Bessemer?

It has about 25,000 residents.

Is that too much money for a mayor?

Walt Maddox of Tuscaloosa makes $164,000 and has more to deal with than the mayor of Bessemer.

Football season alone is a big deal every single year.

Plus, the population of Tuscaloosa is much bigger than Bessemer, Alabama.

Huntsville pays the mayor $152,000 per year.

How much is too much?
