Tuscaloosa County Park And Rec Authority Receives High Honor

What a victory for everyone at the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority today. According to officials at the USTA, the national governing body for the sport of tennis, the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center has been recognized as a 2026 Outstanding Facility.

The Tuscaloosa, Alabama, facility is one of 41 winners in the annual "Outstanding Facility Awards" program. All 41 winners were recently honored at a special awards reception held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City as part of the US Open. The Tuscaloosa Tennis Center, operated by the Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority, was recently expanded to 30 tennis courts. The expansion will greatly increase the local community's capacity for recreational play, instruction, leagues, and tournaments.

Brian Davis, CEO of PARA, credited Mayor Walt Maddox, as well as Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner, for their leadership in our community. Davis also spoke of the dedication and hard work of the PARA Board of Directors as a key reason for its success.

All facilities were judged on the following criteria: overall layout and adaptation to site; excellence of court surface and lights; ease of maintenance; accommodations for players, spectators, and press/officials; aesthetics; graphics (including the use of signs and landscaping); amenities such as casual seating for spectators, food services and social areas; and the facilities’ participation in grassroots tennis programs.
