The Townsquare Media Weather Center has been closely monitoring a developing weather system forecast to bring two rounds of severe weather to portions of Alabama.

There are some weather nuances about the two waves of active weather. “While some weakening is forecast before it moves in, severe storms are still possible,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

ROUND 1

Risk Levels

The Storm Prediction Center has a Level 1 out of 5 for areas generally along and north of the I-20 corridor.

West Alabama Counties Risk Areas

Fayette – Marginal Risk

Lamar – Mainly a Marginal Risk with the far northern section of the county under a Slight Risk

Pickens – Marginal Risk for roughly half of the county

Tuscaloosa – Marginal Risk for nearly half of the county

Walker – Marginal Risk

Timeline

For Fayette, Lamar, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties, the timeframe for potential severe weather is Saturday between Midnight and 7 a.m.

Possible Threats

The severe weather concerns are for damaging winds up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.

The Storm Prediction Center has Central and West Alabama at a Level 1 out of 5 risk level for severe weather.

Timeline

The current timeline for round 2 is Saturday between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Possible Threats

The main weather threats include damaging winds reaching up to 60 mph and hail the size of quarters.

“Depending on how far south the residual line/boundary makes it, there will be a conditional threat for isolated severe storms re-developing along the boundary Saturday afternoon and evening,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
