The coldest air of the season is set to invade Alabama early next week, plus the potential for winter weather conditions.

"Winter Storm Enzo," named by The Weather Channel, could bring significant weather impacts across the South.

The activity will start in Texas and Louisiana on Monday night and sweep into southern Mississippi and Alabama on Tuesday. Winter weather will also travel through the western Florida Panhandle and parts of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Alabama Outlook

"Probabilities for accumulating snow have increased for much of Central Alabama for Tuesday into Tuesday night due to a low-pressure system in the Gulf," said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

We're keeping a close watch on the track and development of the low-pressure system. The location of this system, as it moves into Alabama, will play a key role in determining the potential snowfall location and amounts.

What Does That All Mean?

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa's Chief Meteorologist, said, "The most challenging part of this forecast is the northern extent of the snow. Places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, and Gadsden could see 1-2 inches of snow or nothing at all on Tuesday."

"Once we get within the 60-hour window when we can see high-resolution model data, we will be more confident in a forecast for the I-20/59 corridor.”

The current prediction is that the highest snow potential is over the southern portion of Alabama.

Looking Ahead – More Winter Weather?

The Weather Channel mentioned, "Several computer models suggest that another burst of rain, snow or ice may sweep across the South and East later in the week."

Stay prepared as this system unfolds.
