Sometimes social media is like that squeaky wheel. It gets attention. It stirs up lots of folks, depending on the topic. In this case, it involves some accusations about Tuscaloosa County Schools and teacher pay. When paychecks are involved, you can bet everyone will have an opinion. A Facebook user named Danette Honeycutt seemed to be the first to raise the issue.

Here's what was posted on social media:
I’m speaking up today in support of the TCSS teachers and coaches who are not receiving their full paychecks because supplements were not approved in time.
These employees have already put in countless extra hours over the past month—coaching, sponsoring clubs and activities, leading programs, and taking on responsibilities beyond their regular jobs. Many accept these additional duties because they depend on that supplemental income as part of their monthly budget.
Then, just TWO DAYS before payday, they were notified that their supplements would not be included.
Imagine finding out two days before payday that your check could be $500, $1,000, or more short because something that should have been processed wasn’t completed on time. Mortgages, car payments, groceries, childcare, and other bills don’t get postponed because a paycheck does.
These teachers and coaches did their jobs. They showed up. They worked the hours. They fulfilled their responsibilities. They should be paid what they were expecting to be paid—and on time.

Nobody would be happy if their paycheck was short by $1,000. Now, we would love an official response from someone with the Tuscaloosa County School System, but many social media comments seem to confirm that something is happening. As we said from the start, social media can stir up a lot of things. It is difficult to know what is true and what is false.

We will continue to reach out and hope to get an answer we can follow up on in the near future. In the meantime, we are only hearing from one group, and they are saying it pretty loudly.
