Tuscaloosa High School Needs Help For Amazing Opportunity
Young people can learn so much from visiting other cities in the USA.
Sometimes, it's better than a day in a classroom.

Students in Tuscaloosa have a fantastic opportunity to visit Dallas, Texas, this year.
According to their director of public relations, Lydia Avant, Central High School’s band is raising money for a performance tour to Dallas, Texas, scheduled for April 9–12, 2026. The trip will give students the opportunity to perform outside of Alabama while participating in educational and cultural experiences.
The trip is expected to cost $50,000.
However, the band has raised only $9,000 so far and is continuing fundraising efforts to ensure that all 62 students who want to participate can attend.
The school is a Title 1 school, which means fundraising can sometimes be difficult for many student families.
“This trip is about more than music,” band director Michael Maxton said.
“It’s about broadening horizons and giving our students experiences that build confidence, perspective, and opportunity. Many of our students may not have the chance to travel otherwise, and this tour is a meaningful way to learn beyond the classroom.”
The three-night tour will include a tour of AT&T Stadium, a visit to the Dallas Museum of Art, a guided experience at the JFK Memorial, and a student performance at Six Flags Over Texas.
Band members said travel opportunities like this help students grow in independence, teamwork, and pride as they represent Central High School beyond state lines.
Central is opening its doors to anyone in West Alabama who can get involved and help with this effort.
Community members, alumni, and local businesses are encouraged to support the fundraising effort through donations or sponsorships.
Donations of any amount are welcome. Those interested in contributing or learning more about sponsorship opportunities may contact Maxton at mmaxton@tusc.k12.al.us.
