Tuscaloosa High School Senior Selected For Prestigious Position

It has been a banner week for Tuscaloosa schools.

Earlier this week, our city and county schools were both cited for having cutting-edge programs to ensure student mental health is always a priority and that abnormalities are quickly detected.

As Mayor Walt Maddox said in an interview with TownSquare Media Tuscaloosa earlier this week, mental health is the biggest issue facing the Tuscaloosa region, and it’s not even close.

Now we have a prestigious moment for Central High in Tuscaloosa.

Central High School will host a signing day celebration at 1 PM on March 2 to honor a senior who has been selected to attend Tuskegee University to pursue a career as an airman.

This is a great honor earned by only 45 students nationwide out of more than 400 applicants.

As many are aware, Tuskegee University has a storied legacy in aviation and military service, most notably as the home of the historic Tuskegee Airmen, whose courage and excellence helped to change the course of history during World War II.

Family members, faculty, classmates, and district leaders will gather to celebrate this milestone and recognize the great dedication that has led to this honor for a local student.

Thomas Jones, principal of Central High, said in a statement, "The honor reflects not only remarkable, academic and personal achievement, but also a deep commitment to serving something greater than oneself.”
