The 4th of July is America’s birthday and a time to celebrate the freedom we all enjoy. A celebration calls for the perfect cocktail to add a little extra kick to the party. As a former bartender, these are some cocktails that worked well at July 4th events.

First, we start off with a trendy drink for those who love the taste of strawberries, the Strawberry Margarita. Margaritas can be served either frozen or on the rocks. This is an excellent cocktail for someone with a “sweet tooth.” the glass should have sugar on the rim.

Once your glass is ready, place ice, tequila, sugar, fresh sliced strawberries triple sec, and lime juice in the blender and mix it for 3 to 5 mins, then pour and serve. You will want to garnish the drink with a lime wedge. Now not everyone cares for a “fruity” drink. Some prefer the more traditional cocktails.

One of the most famous traditional cocktails is the Old Fashion which is made of bourbon, bitters, and sugar. We start off with 1 tsp of sugar that goes into the mixing glass, then you add the bitters, usually around three to four dashes with do. Next, we add a tsp of water, then 2 ounces of bourbon and ice.  Stir it all together and pour it into a rocks glass with one large single Ice Cube. Garnish this classic drink with an orange slice.

Perhaps your guest has a taste for something sweet yet spicy the firecracker is the perfect drink just for that. Start by muddling watermelon chunks in the mixing glass. You will need to add 1 ½ ounces of rum along with ½ an ounce of triple sec, lime juice, and simple syrup. Add 1/6 of a tsp of cayenne pepper for the spice.

Last but certainly not least is the Long Island ice tea which is always a party favorite. Add ice to your shaker and ½ ounce of white rum, vodka, triple sec, gin, 1 ounce, and 2 ounces of soda. Shake well for about 15 seconds then strain it into a tall glass and garnish it with a lemon slice.

These are just a few of my favorite cocktails that have been crowd-pleasers in my time behind the bar Cheers!
