The Tuscaloosa County Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) proudly presents its 2025 Membership Drive and Community Engagement Event.

Designed to strengthen ties within the community, the event offers a platform for the public to engage with the local chapter of the SCLC, gain insight into its mission, and recognize the meaningful work it continues to accomplish in Tuscaloosa.

“We’re excited to welcome new members and re-engage with those who have long been a part of our movement,” said Rev. James Williams, Chapter President. “This Membership Drive is about building unity, sharing our vision, and inviting the community to be part of the change we’re working toward every day.”

The event will take place on Saturday, June 7, at the Historic Bailey Tabernacle Church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is where “attendees will have the chance to meet members of our leadership team, engage with our committees, and discover meaningful ways to contribute to the work of justice, equity, education, advocacy, and empowerment,” said the press release.

Organizers emphasize that joining the Tuscaloosa County Chapter of the SCLC means becoming part of a historic institution deeply connected to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The organization remains steadfast in its mission to advance social justice and civil rights through nonviolent activism and dedicated community service.

StudySoup compiled the 20 largest historically Black colleges and universities in the nation, based on 2021 data from the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics. Each HBCU on this list is a four-year institution, and the schools are ranked by the total student enrollment.
