The company announced today that it would shutter 250 stores quickly, according to its statement. Within a couple of hours of that news coming from Starbucks corporate, a sign was placed on the doors of a location here in Tuscaloosa. That location is on 15th St. in Tuscaloosa. No word yet on closing more stores in Tuscaloosa County.

Starbucks COO Mike Grams told employees that closing 250 stores would represent only 1% of its total locations. In a statement released to the media, Grams said, "We have carefully reviewed our North America coffeehouse portfolio and identified locations where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners or where we don't see a path to acceptable financial performance."

Starbucks also made it clear that store closures in any market do not mean future locations are off the table in those cities.
