Each day counting down to Alabama's Week 1 matchup with Utah State, I will highlight a former player whose jersey number coincides with the amount of days until the game. The Tide takes the field in just seven days, so let's look at a former Bama cornerback who has made quite the name for himself in the NFL, Trevon Diggs.

Trevon Diggs suited up for the Crimson Tide from 2016-19, originally coming to the team as an athlete, unsure of what exact position was best for him. After playing wide receiver, safety and seeing time as a return specialist in his freshman year, the Gaithersburg, MD native made the switch to cornerback full-time as a sophomore.

In 2017, Diggs saw time in 12 games as a corner, but mostly served as a reserve player. He finished the year with just six tackles and three pass deflections while the Tide went 13-1 and won the national title over Georgia.

As a junior, Diggs took over a starting spot within the defense and helped lead a fierce unit. The third year defender finished with 20 tackles, an interception and six pass deflections, but the Tide came up short in the title game, losing to Trevor Lawrence and the Clemson Tigers.

In his final year with the Crimson Tide, Diggs posted his best stats of his career. He compiled 37 tackles, eight pass deflections and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Alabama finished 11-2, missing out on a return to the National Championship, and Diggs entered the 2020 NFL Draft.

He was selected 51st overall by the Dallas Cowboys and immediately made his impact felt as a rookie. Despite being just a second round pick, Diggs earned the starting job by Week 1 and has since developed into one of the most electrifying ballhawk corners in the entire league.

Across just two seasons in Dallas, the former four-star prospect has an incredible 110 tackles, 14 interceptions and 35 pass deflections.  He was named both a Pro Bowler and First Team All-Pro in 2021 and looks to continue to build on his success in 2022.
