Three Alabama Alumnus to Compete in Pro Bowl
Football season is coming to a close, but there is one more chance to see a few Alabama alumnus compete before next fall.
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs will compete in the 2022 NFL Pro Bowl, while New England Patriots QB Mac Jones and Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris got the nods as alternates.
Diggs went to the Cowboys after being drafted No. 51 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. During his sophomore season, he recorded 52 total tackles- 43 solo and nine assisted, picked off 11 interceptions, the most in the league, recorded 142 yards, and scored two touchdowns. He helped the Cowboys win the NFC East and went to the playoffs, losing in the first round to the 49ers.
Jones went to the Patriots after getting drafted No. 15 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he went 352-of-521, 3,801 yards, 22 TDs, and 13 INTs. He led New England to a 10-7 season and went to the playoffs as a wild card, losing to the Bills in the first round.
Harris went to the Steelers after being drafted No. 24 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he attempted 307 runs, picking up 1,200 yards on the ground, and scored 10 total TDs, seven of which were rushing. Harris helped the Steelers get into the playoffs as a wild card, but lost in the first round to the Chiefs.
However, that is not all for the Alabama alumnus this week. Jones and Diggs will compete against each other in more ways than one this weekend, as both were selected to be a part of the 2022 Pro Bowl Skills Showdown as well.
The skills challenge, similar to what is seen in the NBA All-Star Weekend is a lineup of different challenges and obstacles for the Pro Bowlers to compete in for fun prior to the actual game itself.
The challenges are: Precision Passing, an accuracy competition, mainly for quarterbacks; Thread the Needle, an accuracy challenge with defensive players trying to prevent success; Best Catch, a wide receiver competition to execute the greatest catch; Fastest Man, a 40-yard sprint; and Epic Pro Bowl Dodgeball, where each team plays a best-of-three dodgeball series.
The 2022 Pro Bowl Skills Showdown takes place in Las Vegas, Nev., on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 6 p.m. CST on ESPN. The 2022 Pro Bowl game is Sunday, February 6, 2022, at 2 p.m. CST on ESPN.
