The event started at 8:30am under rainy Tuscaloosa skies but anyone driving by quickly realized the volunteers were not deterred. Upon arriving myself at 10am, I was greeted by 50-60 wet, dirty, out of breath playground builders all churning together in the mud and pouring rain like one cohesive group.

The playground is a welcome addition to a growing movement to rebuild areas heavily affected by the tornado on April 27th. The Rosedale community has recently seen new apartment complexes going up, Habitat for Humanity has built several houses, Talladega Supperspeedway planted trees in Rosedale Park and now a place for our kids to play and make friends.

KaBOOM! was awarded a grant to build a playground in Tuscaloosa through collaboration with PNC Bank, United Way of West Alabama, and PARA. Their vision is to have a playground within walking distance of every child and they are now one step closer to that goal.
