Montana Fouts is a National Award Winner
When people think of the University of Alabama, there are certain things that come to mind. But one thing that definitely comes to mind is student athletic excellence.
Montana Fouts continues that tradition by receiving the Honda Sport award on Monday. She is the Alabama Softball program's first player to receive the award.
The Honda Sport award is awarded annually to the top woman athlete across 12 NCAA sanctioned sports. The University of Alabama has had 12 winners in various sports, from gymnastics, to cross country and golf.
Each recipient of the Honda sport award is in the running for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and Honda Cup that’ll be awarded June 26. Alabama's last Honda cup winner was Kim Jacob in 2014.
Alabama's ace goes into the running for the cup with some very elite student athletes. The list includes Iowa's basketball star Caitlin Clark, Stanford's golf star Rose Zhang and the Florida gator's gymnast Trinity Thomas.
Alabama's gymnastics has had previous Honda award winners such as Penney Hauschild, Dee Foster and Kim Jacob.
Brooke Pancake and Emma Talley from Alabama's women's golf team won the award in 2012 and 2015.
Mercy Chelangat won the award in 2021 for Cross country. Fouts rounds out the 12 Alabama winners.
