West Alabama residents should prepare for a mid-week chance of isolated to scattered thunderstorms, most likely developing during the afternoon and evening hours ahead of a cold front to our northwest.

The storms today carry the primary threat of damaging winds of up to 60 MPH, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Marginal Risk Outlook

Currently, the entire West Alabama – Townsquare Media Coverage Area is under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms. The potential active weather is expected to start this afternoon and dissipate around 11 p.m.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that we should “expect a general increase in the number of scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama through the rest of the week as the upper ridge weakens and the air becomes more unstable.”

Also, “Heavier thunderstorms could produce strong gusty winds and small hail,” said Spann.
