Patrick was a running back for the Crimson Tide from 1980 to 1983, under famous head coach Paul Bear Bryant, and he rushed for 1,463 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. One of Patrick's most memorable moments with the Crimson Tide was a 33-yard sweep in the 1981 Iron Bowl when Alabama was leading Auburn 21-17 late in the game and needed one last drive to secure the victory. Patrick secured the game with a drive that included beautiful runs and was capped off by a 15-yard rushing touchdown that sealed the deal and gave Alabama a 28-17 victory, securing coach Bear's 315th victory.

Linnie Patrick was also well-known for his remarkable rushing numbers from high school. Patrick carried for more than 5,000 yards throughout his high school career, setting the Alabama high school state record at the time. Patrick also led Walker High School (now Jasper High School) to win the 4A state championship, and the 5'10, 175-pound back was chosen MVP of the game.

Patrick will be greatly missed by his friends, family, the whole Alabama program, and fanbase. Linnie Patrick's family has yet to reveal the cause of Patrick's death and will announce funeral plans in the following days. We will update this story when further information is available.
