John Paul White makes music in the Grammy winning duo The Civil Wars, has collaborated with Taylor Swift and now is trying his hand at teaching!

Breaking into the music industry can be a tough and daunting task, just ask any famous musician.  First you have to have the ability, next you must have the perseverance; you’ll need a little luck as well and perhaps some insider information.  While the first three are on the artist, the University of North Alabama will now be able to provide some insider information in the form of a workshop taught by an award-winning singer and song writer.

White will teach a workshop in the Continuing Education Department at the University of North Alabama beginning this month. Surviving the New World in the Music Business, will emphasize navigating the challenges of the new "music business.” White will provide real world, first person examples detailing the amount of hard work, education, networking and luck involved in making music as a profession. In addition, White will speak about observations on past and present trends and how they could signal prosperity in the near future.

Registration for the workshop is currently underway. Surviving the New World in the Music Business will take place Friday, April 11, from 6pm to 9pm, in the lecture hall of the new UNA Academic and Student Commons building. The cost for participation is $40 per person. Interested individuals can contact UNA’s Continuing Education Department at 256-765-4862 to register by phone. Registration is also available online at UNA's website, then select music.
