Gordo’s Mule Day/Chickenfest Canceled
One of my favorite events each year is Mule Day/Chickenfest in Gordo. The annual street festival has live entertainment, games and activities, food trucks, homemade ice cream, and, my favorite, Gator On A Dang Stick! Every year, 95.3 The Bear and the Wild Bill Show are on the front row to watch the parade. The parade includes horses, mule-drawn wagons, antique cars, and old tractors. I love the popping sounds of the old tractors, which are in such incredible condition, with paw-paw bouncing on that old metal seat.
The following is a statement from the Gordo Area Chamber of Commerce:
"We would like to announce, with immense disappointment, that this year’s Mule Day/Chickenfest has been canceled due to COVID-19. This decision was not an easy one to make, but after several weeks of discussion, the Chamber feels that we must err on the side of caution at this time. Though this is a great disappointment for the Chamber and for the City of Gordo as a whole, we remain optimistic about the events and activities we can offer everyone in the second half of 2020! Feel free to share this post with friends and family so we can get the word out. We also urge you to share and follow our page for updates regarding Chamber events for 2020. Thank you in advance for your understanding in this difficult time and for your continued interest in the Gordo Area Chamber of Commerce."
I sure will miss Mule Day/Chickenfest this year. I hope to be there next year.
