It’s a topic that, as a dad and a granddad, I genuinely have issues even thinking about.

As a new father and husband years ago, I struggled in a significant way with panic attacks, nightmares, and an overwhelming obsession that something bad would happen to my family.

It was not a healthy way to live. I found, through great counsel and my relationship with God, that you have to put your worries and concerns in his hands.

I still find it difficult at times, though, to even think about losing a child, and those who have been through it.

Neal Parker is a man from Alabama whom I deeply respect. Neal lost his son years ago.

His son Ryan Parker was taken while boating with some friends.

The Parkers used the tragedy to start a foundation that does lots of good, and Ryan’s father has spent lots of time reaching out and being there for other parents who have gone through losing a child.

He has been there when they need it the most.
