NWS Preps Alabamians for Dangerous Heat Next Week
Dangerous Heat Next Week
Hot temperatures and humid conditions, combined with a dome of high pressure over the southern region, will increase the likelihood of rising heat index values.
Like your favorite song, these conditions will be on repeat for the next several days starting on Sunday. “We're expecting several days of above-average temperatures & dangerously high heat indices this week,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Record-Breaking Heat?
Could West Alabama experience some record-breaking heat? The short answer is that it’s possible. The Weather Channel said, “Dozens of records could fall across the South as punishing heat continues to target the region.”
When Will it Cool Down?
There is some predicted relief headed our way, James Spann, ABC 33/40 and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “Expect heat levels to slowly fall over the latter half of the week as the ridge weakens.”
