The Townsquare Media Weather Center has been closely monitoring a developing weather situation over the past few days that brings our coverage area the risk of showers and thunderstorms with some strong to severe storms.

This is part of a more extensive active weather system that is ushering later today into this evening with severe storms in “locations from north-central Texas and eastern and central Oklahoma to southeast Kansas, northwest Arkansas, southern and central Missouri, and southern Illinois,” said The Weather Channel.

Tuesday's weather situation could impact the Tennessee and Ohio valleys as this system progresses. The Weather Channel added that the possibility of “severe weather might also extend eastward across the Appalachians and into the mid-Atlantic, and southward into parts of north Georgia, central Alabama, and central Mississippi.”

What Does That Mean for Alabama?

Risk Areas

The Storm Prediction Center has defined the following risk areas:

Tennessee Valley of North Alabama - "Enhanced Risk"

Almost All of the Townsquare Media Coverage Area - "Slight Risk"

South Alabama - "Marginal Risk"

Threats

Currently, the threats are damaging winds up to 60 mph, hail up to quarter size, and the possibility of a few tornadoes.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, “The main parameters needed for tornadoes will be to the north, although an isolated tornado or two can't be ruled out across North Alabama tomorrow night.”
