Could Tyler Buchner Take the Reins at QB for Alabama?
The 2023 season is just getting started for the Crimson Tide. Before the season, one of the main questions facing Coach Saban and his staff was who was getting the starting nod at the quarterback position.
Jalen Milroe has started in 2023's first two games for Alabama. However, Saban discussed the continued development of Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner during his press conference earlier this week.
During his 2021 season with the Irish, Buchner had over 900 yards, six touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
There is no indication that there will be a change in quarterbacks for the upcoming game. However, as reported by On3.com, Saban seemed encouraged about Buchner thus far.
“Yeah, well, he played really well in the last scrimmage, and he’s done well in practice,” Saban said.
“So we feel really good about, sort of, how he’s continued to improve and develop and gain confidence in what he’s doing, and have a good feeling around the teammates and the receivers and all that type of thing.”
Saban was asked how important it was for Milroe and all the players to remain confident.
“I think it’s important in all positions," Saban said. "But one thing you don’t want to do is get frustrated as a player. You don’t want one play to affect the next play and to stay positive. But you can say stay positive, but we all have self-talk, right? You gotta believe it. You can’t just say ‘OK, I’m gonna do this,’ but don’t believe you can do it. You gotta believe and trust in yourself, too.”
Game three for the now 1-1 Crimson Tide comes this Saturday in Tampa, Fla. against South Florida. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CST.
