Scientists say listening to sad songs after a breakup are actually beneficial in helping wounded hearts heal. The reason being, 'aesthetic' products that match are moods function as a consoling friend might.

After a particularly bad break up with my husband Perry (he couldn't stay away), I consoled myself with Toni Braxton and, after opening the phones on Madison and Shepherd this morning, we discovered Garth Brooks, Skeeter Davis and Guns 'N Roses healed a few in our audience.

Below is a cross section of what's considered some of the best break-up songs of all time (in no particular order) but feel free to add yours in the comments below.

Dolly Parton 'I Will Always Love You'

The Temptations 'I Wish It Would Rain'

Sam Cooke 'Bring It On Home To Me'

Rolling Stones 'Angie'

Sinead O'Conner 'Nothing Compares To You'

Percy Sledge 'When A Man Loves A Woman'
