Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne is one of several defendants named in a lawsuit from a former track and field athlete back in Arizona.  Baillie Gibson, is suing for failing to protect her from an assistant coach who allegedly raped her regularly over several years.

According to ESPN the suit was filed in 2015 and according to AL.com  Craig Carter is accused of blackmailing Gibson into an unwanted relationship that was reported to athletics officials in 2013.

Gibson said she was never contacted by Byrne or any other school official after that meeting and the alleged abuse continued through 2015 when the coach was arrested on four felony counts included aggravated assault and stalking. The lawsuit simply states Arizona officials should have investigated the matter when it was brought to their attention.
