The Alabama football program made the hiring of Jay Valai official today. Valai will become the new cornerbacks coach, replacing the departing Karl Scott. Valai joins the coaching staff after previous stints with Texas, Rutgers, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Georgia Bulldogs.

"We are pleased and happy to be able to add Jay Valai to our staff to coach cornerbacks,” Saban said. “Jay is an excellent young coach who possesses outstanding knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. He is a really good teacher and an outstanding recruiter who works tirelessly at his craft. We are excited to welcome Jay and his family to Tuscaloosa.”

Valai played defensive back for the Wisconsin Badgers from 2007-10 and served as the captain for the Badgers' 2010 Rose Bowl team. While in college he totaled 153 tackles, forced four fumbles and secured two interceptions in 48 career games.

Before getting into coaching, Valai ran a sports performance training facility working with high school, NBA and NFL athletes. He ran the training facility for six years before becoming a defensive quality control coach for the Georgia Bulldogs in 2016.

Valai spent the 2018 season as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Kansas City Chiefs before becoming a full fledge position coach at Rutgers. He left the Scarlett Knights after one season and became corners coach at Texas. While at Texas he helped Josh Thompson earn second team All-Big 12.

Valai wraps up the coaching turnover for the Crimson Tide for now as all 10 on-field assistant roles have now been filled.
