Alabama Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Rape of a Child
A North Alabama man convicted in April for the rape of a child has received his sentence this week. Lawson James Lewis Miller Sr, a resident of Guntersville, AL, has received a life sentence with no possibility of parole.
Miller had sex with a relative in his care, starting as early as when she was ten years old until the victim reached her early teens according to court findings shared by AL.com.
Marshall County District Attorney Jennifer Bray applauded the court's decision in a statement.
“My heart is grateful for Judge Abel’s sentence in this case, not only as a district attorney but as a mom and member of this community.”
“Mr. Miller will die in prison, and that is honestly better than he deserves,” she added.
The initial trial lasted only three days, with the jury taking 40 minutes to consider all the evidence to convict Miller.
“We are so proud of the victim for having the courage to face this individual and ensure that he is held accountable for his crimes,” Bray said.
Miller was convicted in April on charges of first degree rape by forcible compulsion and incest. Judge Christopher Abel sentenced Miller to the maximum for each count.
